About the Femto-UP School

Since 2000, the Femto-UP CNRS School has been organized every third or fourth year in France, by members of the French scientific community belonging to the Réseau FEMTO and the Groupement de Recherche (GDR) "UP". The School is intended to train newcomers and give insights on the latest developments in the field of "ultrafast laser technologies and applications". It targets a multidisciplinary public of scientists at any level of their research carrier (from starting master or PhD students to confirmed engineers and researchers) with a series of lectures covering (i) basic concepts of ultrafast laser technologies (laser pulse generation, propagation, characterization, amplification) as well as (ii) a selection of more specialized topics and applications of these technologies.

The "2020 edition" will be an online event taking place in March 2021 (see Program). It is organized by the Department of ultrafast Optics and Nanophotonics (DON) of the Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg (CNRS & Université de Strasbourg). This year, in addition to lectures by outstanding international experts, we organize sessions of numerical practicals to illustrate some of the fundamental concepts of ultrashort light pulse propagation and characterization. We will use the Python programming language. No prerequisite is required. A preliminary "Python survival kit" session will be organized in the week preceding the first Lectures. Registration is compulsory in order to receive all information and practical details in due time. A chat will be maintained over the duration of the School to enable/boost the interactions between participants and lecturers, and serve as "hotline" for the numerical sessions (home work, debugging, etc...)
